FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: The City Attorney's Office is announcing a major legal victory today.  In the lawsuit filed in the Orange County Superior Court by the City of Huntington Beach against the State regarding the State's recently enacted Sanctuary State law (City of HuntingtonBeach v. The State ofCalifornia 30-2018-00984280) the Superior Court yesterday afternoon announced the Sanctuary State law an unconstitutional invasion of Charter City authority and autonomy.  This is a win for the City of Huntington Beach and Charter Cities.  City Attorney, Michael Gates, who argued the City's case in court yesterday said "I'm very pleased with the court's ruling.  The is a significant victory for the rule of law, the CA Constitution, the City's Charter authority, and other Charter Cities.  We will continue to hold Sacramento accountable for unconstitutional State law overreaches.  The City of Huntington Beach will not allow Sacramento to violate its Constitutionally protected rights." Mr. Gates can be reached at (714) 458-5591 for questions.
