Coastline Community College Honors 40th Anniversary with 70s Themed Gala
 
FOUNTAIN VALLEY, CALIFORNIA----The Coastline Community College Foundation hosted 70s themed “Jewel of Orange County” gala in honor of the College’s 40th anniversary. The gala took place on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at the Hilton Orange County/Costa Mesa where more than 300 attendees dressed in their favorite 70s attire and formal wear to commemorate the establishment of Coastline in 1976.
 
The event was hosted by mistress of ceremonies, Maria Hall-Brown, Executive Producer of Arts and Cultural Programming at PBS SoCal, and celebrated Coastline’s past, present, and future by honoring former presidents, Dr. Bernie Luskin, Dr. Bill Vega, Dr. Leslie Purdy, and Dr. Ding-Jo Currie. Special guests of the event included Westminster Mayor Tri Ta, Phong Ly (representing U.S. Congressman Alan Lowenthal's Office), Orange County Supervisor Andrew Do, Board of Trustees members, Dr. Lorraine Prinsky, Mary Hornbuckle, Interim Chancellor Gene Farrell, and Vice Chancellor of Administrative Services & Technology, Andrew Dunn.
 
Coastline’s rock band of administrators, staff members, and students, entitled “One Credit Shy” performed tunes from the 70s during the opening reception, followed by a live performance from local band, Funky Hippeez.
 
“As the proud president of Coastline, I’m honored to celebrate and recognize the achievements that the college has made over the past 40 years,” says, Dr. Loretta Adrian, Coastline President. “Our past presidents have been instrumental in making Coastline what it is today: the innovative, progressive academic institution that serves today’s local and global student.”
 
During the event, Coastline’s noteworthy achievements were honored. Special accolades include the following:
  • Recipient of 20 Los Angeles Area Emmy® awards
  • Recognized by Huffington Post as being the #1 community college in the U.S. in 2015
  • Designated as the fourth school in the nation as a National Center of Academic Excellence for Cybersecurity by the Department of Homeland Security
  • Voted “Best for Vets” by the Military Times in 2016
  • Chosen as one the top 150 community colleges eligible for the 2017 Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence
