Event Description:
We invite you to join us for our first in-person A.M. Connect on Friday, May 14th! Featured Guest Speakers Mayor Kim Carr, Council Member Natalie Moser and Chair of the HB Human Relations Task Force Vashia Rhone will discuss programs and policies HB is implementing regarding diversity, inclusion and equity. They will also share how the City is making our community a welcoming environment for business owners and residents alike.

Attendees can enjoy individually wrapped breakfast sandwiches and hot coffee, courtesy of NORMS Restaurant! 
Don't forget to represent your company by bringing a door prize for the drawing. All attendees are entered to win the raffle prizes brought in by other business representatives.

SPEAKER BIOS:

Kim Carr, Mayor

Kim Carr was born and raised in Southern Californian. Kim attended Pacifica High School in Garden Grove and graduated from California State University, Fullerton with a degree in American Studies and a minor in Economics. Kim was appointed to the Huntington Beach Public Works Commission in 2013 and served as the Chair in 2015. She also served on the Huntington Beach General Plan Advisory Committee in 2015.
Professionally, Kim is an award-winning executive with over 25 years experience in media sales. She was previously the National Sales Manager for a television station in San Diego where she developed marketing and advertising campaigns for a variety of clients. Kim's commitment to integrity and hard work has earned her the respect of small- and mid-sized business owners as well as Fortune 500 executives. She believes in building and maintaining longterm relationships, delivering on promises and producing results.
Kim and her family have been active members of the Huntington Beach community for over 20 years. She, her husband and two teenagers have been involved with the Huntington Beach Community Garden, Girl Scouts, PTA, APA, AYSO Soccer, Ocean View Little League, Huntington Beach City Junior Lifeguards and HBHS Model United Nations. Kim has also completed the Surf City Half-Marathon twice!


Natalie Moser, Council Member
Natalie Moser is a proud mom, a community leader, and a committed change-maker, who was elected to Huntington Beach City Council on her first run in November of 2020.
Natalie grew up in HB and, together with her husband Matt is raising her two kids in her hometown. 
She graduated from CSULB with a Bachelor of Arts in History and completed her MBA at Chapman University. 
Natalie worked in the financial services and credit union industry before shifting her focus to family and creative entrepreneurship, opening a photography business. 
She has a wide range of volunteer experience—from scouts to schools to community support. 
She is a founding board member for the McKenna Claire Foundation for Pediatric Brain Cancer Research and is herself a cancer survivor. 
An advocate for vulnerable members of her community, Natalie was the Chairperson of the HB Human Relations Task Force and was honored by OC Human Relations with the 2020 Diverse Community Leader Award.  
Since her swearing-in in December of 2020, Councilmember Moser has remained committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive Huntington Beach and to improving the lives of the community by facilitating conversations that activate change. She is focusing on improved accessibility and mobility, working on policy to protect the environment, and on innovative and collaborative approaches to end homelessness and improve community wellness.


Vashia “V.C.” Rhone, Chair of the HB Human Relations Task Force
Former President Barack Obama describes her as “a woman of great strength and character” in a letter of commendation. Syrian refugees refer to her as “habibi” for the missionary work she has done in the middle east assisting the sick and less fortunate. V.C. is a visionary with a passion for helping others.
As a New York University graduate, she was trained by professor and Academy Award-Winner, Carol Dysinger (Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone if You’re a Girl) and learned how to utilize the arts to connect with others. These connections helped her gain deeper insight into how others view the world and exist within it. As an award-winning, filmmaker, V.C. transforms the good, the bad and the ugly into stories that often shine a light on women, cultural awareness, and social injustice.
Her creativity, varied life experiences, and intuitive encounters guide her as Chairperson of the Huntington Beach Human Relations Task Force. The ​task force exists to promote and celebrate human dignity and diversity through education and understanding. V.C. has implemented and created several programs and initiatives to meet the mission of the task force including the Cultural Cinema Showcase which has been featured in the Los Angeles Times and the OC Register, and is held four times per year featuring films from underrepresented groups; the Community Summit, which brings the community together through stories and experiences shared by residents; and Community Dialogue Circles to encourage one-on-one communication between Huntington Beach residents with diverse perspectives and unique life experiences.
V.C. believes that healthy conversation and active listening are essential to building a strong community!
