HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA, Nov. 15, 2016 – After nearly three years of litigation, the Ocean View School District Board of Trustees announced its approval of a settlement agreement with Rainbow Environmental Services after its regularly scheduled closed session tonight. A press conference with representatives of the Ocean View School District and Republic Services, a parent company of the Rainbow Transfer Station, is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Wednesday, November 16, at Oak View Elementary School in Huntington Beach. Representatives will announce the details of the settlement agreement in the lawsuit over the operation of the Rainbow Facility in Huntington Beach.
As part of the settlement agreement, Rainbow will be funding improvements to the Rainbow Transfer Station, located at 17121 Nichols Lane in Huntington Beach, to include fully enclosing the existing buildings and facilities, constructing a new building, and installing state-of-the-art ventilation and filtration capabilities. When these improvements are completed, all of Rainbow’s operations will be conducted in fully enclosed structures, greatly reducing the noise and odor impacts on the neighboring Oak View schools.
Additionally, Republic has agreed to construct a gymnasium/multi-purpose building for use by the students and families of the Oak View Schools and community. Both parties also agree that the Rainbow Transfer Station will not use the adjacent “Historic Wintersburg” property to expand any of their operations.
