PRESS RELEASE:

OCEAN VIEW SCHOOL DISTRICT NAMES NEW SUPERINTENDENT, DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT FOR ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA, July 7, 2015 – Ocean View School District Trustees named Dr. Carol Hansen as Superintendent on Tuesday, concluding a rigorous search process that included multiple interviews, extensive reference checking, and a visitation to her current place of employment. Dr. Hansen currently serves as Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources in the ABC Unified School District. She served other districts as a personnel commission director, middle school principal, assistant principal, activities director, and classroom teacher.

The Board also appointed Dr. Michael Conroy as Deputy Superintendent, the second highest ranking position in the District. Dr. Conroy will support Dr. Hansen in the overall leadership of the District and oversee business services, operations, facilities, construction, and modernization. Dr. Conroy currently serves as Assistant Superintendent of Business Services in the Paramount Unified School District. He served other districts as assistant superintendent of business and support services, director of business services, high school principal, assistant principal, and classroom teacher.

Former Los Angeles County Office of Education Superintendent Dr. Darline P. Robles congratulated the District on both selections. “The Board has selected two outstanding administrators who will work with everyone associated with your District to bring it to its next level of achievement and recognition in Southern California,” she said.

Board President Gina Clayton-Tarvin said the Board hired a superintendent search firm to help in the selections, because the District needed someone who matched the system’s leadership needs. Focusgroups and interviews were conducted to develop a specific leadership profile for the superintendent. The profile was used as a screening tool for the candidates who applied for the position.

“All five trustees found that Dr. Hansen is the perfect match for our District Superintendent and know that Dr. Conroy will also play an important role in our District’s ongoing development,” Mrs. Clayton-Tarvin said. “This is an important opportunity for our District, and the students it serves.”
“I am honored to have been selected as superintendent and look forward to engaging with students, parents, staff, and community members in this important work,” said Dr. Hansen. “I specifically sought out this opportunity because the needs of the District closely align to the kind of work that I wish to do as a school leader.”

The superintendent and deputy superintendent selection process was overseen by Dr. Joseph M. Farley, an associate with Hazard, Young & Attea, a national executive search firm. Dr. Farley is long-time California educator and the former superintendent of the Capistrano Unified School District and the Anaheim Union High School District.

The search process included submission of a lengthy application, pre-interview screening, reference checking, and two formal interviews by the Board of Trustees for each candidate. Additionally, the current workplaces of both candidates were visited by two trustees for meetings with community members, teachers, administrators, other staff members, colleagues, and current trustees. Mrs. Clayton-Tarvin said the visitations reinforced the decision to select Dr. Hansen and Dr. Conroy because their current colleagues think so highly of them.

The newly appointed leaders will begin in the Ocean View School District on July 13, 2015.
