NEWLY FORMED LEADERSHIP TEAM TO FOCUS ON
INSTRUCTION IN THE OCEAN VIEW SCHOOL DISTRICT

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA, August 19, 2015 – A newly formed leadership team in the Ocean View School District will focus on the District’s history of academic and instructional achievement as it prepares to open the 2015-2016 school year on Wednesday, September 9.

When the Board of Trustees selected its new Superintendent, Dr. Carol Hansen, it also appointed Dr. Michael Conroy as Deputy Superintendent of Administrative Services. They are joined in the District’s top level management by newly appointed Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, Jodee Brentlinger, and Felix Avila, who is in his second year as Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources.

“We are very proud of our new leaders and look forward to a successful school year in service to our students,” Board President Gina Clayton-Tarvin said. She reinforced Dr. Hansen’s goal of “healthy teamwork” for the 2015-2016 school year and beyond.

A spokesman for the executive search firm who helped in the selections, said the recent appointments are significant at a critical time in the District’s long history, because of the experience and talent of the new team.

Dr. Hansen brings over 30 years of progressively increased leadership to the superintendency, having served as a classroom teacher, activities director, coach, principal, personnel director, and most recently as assistant superintendent for human resources in the nearby ABC Unified School District. She was recently praised for developing a nationally recognized labor-management partnership in the ABC system.

Another member of the team, Dr. Conroy, has over 30 years of educational experience, having been a classroom teacher, assistant principal, and high school principal before assuming responsibility for business and operations as an assistant superintendent in the Magnolia School District, and then in the Paramount Unified School District.

Brentlinger has more than 25 years of experience in the education profession, serving as an elementary school teacher, principal, director, executive director, and assistant superintendent for administrative services and community relations. The majority of this service was in the Capistrano Unified School District.

Avila is similarly experienced with service as a school psychologist, assistant principal, principal,
and associate superintendent for human resources in the Rialto Unified School District prior to
joining Ocean View.

“We have built an incredible leadership team for our District and we are going to focus on the most
important aspect of our work, which is what happens in classrooms between teachers and students.
The team will be supported by our talented employees, caring communities and high performing
schools,” Dr. Hansen said. “One of my goals is to foster a healthy teamwork environment with
everyone who is associated with our school system.”

Also new to the management team are Jim Choate, Director of Maintenance, Operations and Facilities;
Gingi Borg, Director of Transportation; Julie Williams, Senior Facilities Planner; Barbara Davis, Coordinator of Student Services; Scott Mooney, Principal of Vista View Middle School; Brett Hardy, Principal of Golden View Elementary School; Rosa Mendieta, Principal of Oak View Elementary School; and Jessica Haag, Assistant Principal of Mesa View Middle School.

“All of these leaders were selected after a rigorous screening and selection process and I’m so pleased that they chose to join our District,” Dr. Hansen said.
