HYATT REGENCY HUNTINGTON BEACH RESORT & SPA TO HOST BONE MARROW DONOR DRIVE TOGETHER WITH DELETE BLOOD CANCER DKMS
Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa seeks to help find a bone marrow donor match for
Hyatt associate’s family member and 14,000 others

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (July 7, 2015)Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa launches its bone marrow donor drive on July 23, 2015. Through Delete Blood Cancer DKMS, Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach and more than 70 other Hyatt-branded hotels across North America will raise awareness about blood cancer and work to expand the bone marrow donor registry that helps save the lives of cancer patients; including 8-year-old Emma Devitt.

Emma, the daughter of Paul Devitt, former general manager of Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa and longtime member of the Hyatt family, is battling a rare form of leukemia. After three years of treatment and a brief remission, Emma’s cancer returned. Emma is among the more than 14,000 Americans in need of a bone marrow match and transplant to survive.

Every day thousands of patients search for a match, but only 4 out of 10 patients are lucky enough to receive a transplant. With less than two percent of the population in the United States on the bone marrow registry, now is the time to consider being a donor.

Registering is easy and takes about four minutes, involving just one sheet of paperwork and the swab of a cheek. The Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa’s bone marrow donor drive is open to hotel associates, guests and the Huntington Beach community at large.  For those who would like to become a donor, please come to the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort and Spa’s Conference Center between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2015.

Registration is open to anyone who is:
  • In generally good health and between the ages of 18-55;
  • A U.S. resident;
  • Willing to donate bone marrow to any patient in need (about 80 percent of the time the donation process is comparable to the process of donating blood);
  • Not already on the registry; and
  • Not active or reserve military.

To help defray lab costs, Delete Blood Cancer also accepts monetary donations.
