Coastline’s Students Showcase their Talent at Art Show
 
Newport Beach, California----June 19, 2014----Coastline Community College held a Student Art Show from May 9th until May 17th, and provided an opportunity for Coastline to showcase the artwork of their students from various levels in the art program.
 
Many students entered their work into the show displaying their distinguished artistic skills and the success of Coastline’s Art Department as a whole. Members of the community attended the event to show support and to view the many great art pieces that were entered in the show. The event recognized students for their hard work and talent, and provided the opportunity for students to share what they have learned at Coastline. 
 
“Coastline has many gifted students in our program and I am excited to see where their talent takes them in the future,” says Coastline Art Gallery Curator David M. Lee. “My hope is that they will be able to take what Coastline teaches them and use it to help them achieve successful careers.”
 
Some of Coastline’s students entered their artwork into the Digital and Ceramics categories. Art students, Robert Magdelano and Scott Thompson, received first place in these categories. Robert Magdelano received 1st place for his Digital art piece called “Japanese Gates” and Scott Thompson also received 1st place for his ceramic piece called “Funny Fish.” In addition to the two first place winners, there were other artists who were recognized for their talents. The student artists included, Jai Kim in Landscape, Susan Harris in Watercolor, George Moran in Figuritive, Christel Lane in Chinese Brush, Kevin Moran in Portrait, Esther Shim in Abstract, Wendy Francis in Still Life, and Joan Nechyon in Painting.

Coastline’s Art Department offers a variety of art classes with up-to-date Mac labs that teach students the skills they need to be successfully prepared for their careers in the arts. Many of the classes offered are located at the Newport Beach Center. In addition, Coastline’s critically acclaimed Art Gallery and Visual Art Lecture Series give students access to a multitude of high-level art professionals. Their dedicated faculty and support services help students achieve their artistic goals whether they are working toward an AA degree in visual art, transferring to a 4-year college, or retooling for a successful art career. The program encourages the development of technical skills, art appreciation, and personal creative vision.
